Hanging Tips

Hanging a collection.
Use a common element to tie them together. For example, the pictures are all black and white, or they are all photographs of landscapes. Grouping with the same frame looks traditional and polished. Using different frames, such as different profiles or colors, adds interest and whimsy.

Decide frame placement without putting a hole in the wall.

Determining the height to hang your picture frames.
Hang pictures where they will be best be seen. For example, if seen mainly from a chair, pictures might be hung lower than standing eye level. Or, if it is children's artwork, it might also be hung low so the child also can enjoy it.

Add to the room, not detract from it.
Keep in mind when hanging picture frames for decorations, you want each photo to add to the room, not detract from it. You don't need to cover your walls in hundreds of pictures to make a statement. Rather select a few key pieces that will accent the room. If you have a group of pictures that are too large to display at once, you can rotate them seasonally. When arranging pictures, focus on making one little area look complete rather than focusing on the whole room at once.
